Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history reviews and physical examinations.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with supervising vascular surgeons.
  • Order, interpret, and communicate diagnostic studies, including vascular ultrasounds, CT angiography, laboratory tests, and other relevant imaging.
  • Manage preoperative and postoperative patient care.
  • Perform hospital rounds and coordinate inpatient management plans.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, procedures, and postoperative care.
  • Surgical Support:
    • Function as first assist during vascular surgical procedures, including open and endovascular interventions.
    • Absorb and assist with vein harvesting, wound closure, vascular exposure, and other operative responsibilities as delegated.
    • Participate in perioperative assessment and management of surgical patients.
  • Procedures:
    • Perform office-based and bedside procedures within scope of practice, which may include:
    • Wound debridement and wound care management
    • Suture and staple removal
    • Incision and drainage procedures
    • Central and arterial line management
    • Vascular access procedures
    • Ultrasound-guided interventions as credentialed
  • Care Coordination:
    • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, radiology staff, rehabilitation specialists, and primary care providers to ensure continuity of care.
    • Coordinate referrals, consultations, and follow-up appointments.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical pathway development.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
    • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and evidence-based clinical practices.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current certification.
  • Active state PA/NP license or eligibility for licensure.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Ability to obtain hospital privileges and credentialing.
  • Previous experience in vascular surgery, cardiovascular surgery, general surgery, or related surgical specialty.
