Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and peripheral vascular access procedures using established clinical guidelines and best practices.
  • Collect blood specimens through venipuncture, assisted line collections, and blood culture techniques while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Verify patient identity using approved identification protocols before all vascular access and specimen collection procedures.
  • Ensure accurate specimen labeling, handling, transportation, and documentation in accordance with laboratory and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform and document Point-of-Care (POC) testing as required, ensuring quality control and compliance with established procedures.
  • Respond effectively to urgent patient care needs and support rapid response situations when vascular access services are required.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to facilitate timely patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Maintain accurate electronic documentation using laboratory and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and confidentiality standards, including HIPAA compliance.
  • Provide compassionate patient education and excellent customer service while minimizing patient discomfort during vascular access procedures.
  • Prioritize workload effectively in high-volume clinical environments while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills during routine and complex patient care situations.
  • Assist with orientation, training, and competency development of new staff and students as assigned.
