Job Summary
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and peripheral vascular access procedures using established clinical guidelines and best practices.
- Collect blood specimens through venipuncture, assisted line collections, and blood culture techniques while maintaining specimen integrity.
- Verify patient identity using approved identification protocols before all vascular access and specimen collection procedures.
- Ensure accurate specimen labeling, handling, transportation, and documentation in accordance with laboratory and regulatory requirements.
- Perform and document Point-of-Care (POC) testing as required, ensuring quality control and compliance with established procedures.
- Respond effectively to urgent patient care needs and support rapid response situations when vascular access services are required.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to facilitate timely patient diagnosis and treatment.
- Maintain accurate electronic documentation using laboratory and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Adhere to infection prevention, patient safety, and confidentiality standards, including HIPAA compliance.
- Provide compassionate patient education and excellent customer service while minimizing patient discomfort during vascular access procedures.
- Prioritize workload effectively in high-volume clinical environments while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
- Demonstrate sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills during routine and complex patient care situations.
- Assist with orientation, training, and competency development of new staff and students as assigned.
