About the role
Pingree seeks an experienced Varsity Baseball Head Coach to join our Athletics Department for the 2026–27 school year. The Varsity Baseball team competes in the Eastern Independent League and plays a competitive league and non-league schedule within the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council.
Responsibilities
- Plan and lead practices, oversee games, and conduct film sessions to support skill development and competitive preparation
- Mentor student-athletes and foster a positive team culture emphasizing growth, accountability, sportsmanship, and teamwork
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding team expectations and commitments
- Support student-athletes in the college recruitment process, including building relationships with college coaches and collaborating with Pingree’s college counseling team
- Assist admissions and retention efforts by engaging with prospective student-athletes, attending admissions events, and collaborating with the admissions team as needed
- Hire, supervise, and support assistant coaches while contributing to the development of the sub-varsity baseball program
- Ensure compliance with league and school policies, attend league meetings, promote safe play, and complete required administrative tasks such as score reporting and media communication
- Attend and supervise all practices, games, team travel, athletics department meetings, and other program-related events
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications and skills required
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 3–5 years of coaching experience; collegiate playing experience preferred
- Ability to teach and develop high-level high school baseball skills, with strong technical knowledge of the game and a commitment to staying current with coaching strategies and training methods
- Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to connect with and engage student-athletes while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
- High standards of professional conduct and a commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-racism
What you bring
- Driving to and from games using school vans will be required; candidates must pass the background check required for working with minors
- Evening and weekend hours are required, as well as occasional off-season support for the program
