Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates Department vehicles, providing passengers with timely, reliable, and safe transportation.
- Collects fares and/or checks passes or transportation vouchers.
- Cleans and maintains vehicles, including checking fuel and fluid levels, tires, and mechanical issues.
- Assists passengers on and off bus or vehicle as needed, including operating wheelchair lifts and securing wheelchairs.
- Answers questions and provides fare and route information, schedules, transfers, and maps.
- Maintains order in the vehicle and completes route logs, reports, and documentation.
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Acceptable Experience, Training, Licenses and/or Certifications
- A high school diploma or GED.
- A Class B CDL with airbrake and passenger endorsements.
- One year of large vehicle driving experience preferred.
Classification Requirements
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, and objectives of the operation of all vehicles in the Department inventory.
- Knowledge of Transit routes, schedules, fares, and related passenger information.
- Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other applicable federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
- Knowledge of Federal (OSHA) regulations and City policies regarding safe work practices.
- Knowledge of State, local, and other applicable traffic and vehicle safety codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of operation of a personal computer and job-related software applications.
Skills and Abilities
- Operate all vehicles in the Department inventory.
- Perform safety and damage inspections.
- Assist passengers on and off bus or vehicle as needed.
- Operate a personal computer.
- Operate a two-way radio.
- Read and interpret maps, schedules, technical manuals, and diagrams.
- Complete assignments in a timely fashion.
- Communicate effectively in the English language.
- Understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations.
- Perform all duties in accordance with City policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, using hands to handle materials, manipulating tools, keyboarding, reaching with hands and arms.
- Sometimes lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds with assistance.
- Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity.
