About the role

Syft is seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you'll build and maintain the core infrastructure that powers our platform, enabling bakeries and customers to connect seamlessly. You'll work closely with product and frontend teams to design scalable APIs, optimize database performance, and ensure reliability across our systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust backend services and APIs using Python and Django
• Optimize PostgreSQL queries and database schemas for performance and scalability
• Build and integrate third-party services (payment processing, notifications, logistics)
• Write clean, testable, and well-documented code with comprehensive test coverage
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot production issues, and implement fixes
• Collaborate with product managers and designers to translate requirements into technical solutions

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python and Django (or similar web frameworks)
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and query optimization
• Familiarity with RESTful API design and microservices architecture
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS or GCP) and containerization (Docker)
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git)
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience with Redis, Celery, or similar task queues
• Familiarity with GraphQL is a plus
• Prior experience in e-commerce, logistics, or food-tech industries is advantageous

Pay

$140,000 – $170,000 per year, depending on experience and location.

Schedule

Full-time, remote-first with flexible working hours. Core collaboration hours are 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM ET.
