Van Driver, Hours Vary, Full Time or Part Time, Perm, 2026-2027

About the role

The North Clackamas School District seeks a Van Driver for the 2026-2027 school year. The position involves providing safe student transportation services, performing pre and post trip inspections, and ensuring safety during transport, loading, and unloading.

Responsibilities

• Assists students and other passengers for safe loading and unloading from van, including emergency situations.
• Oversees student safety in the vehicle, intervenes when necessary, and implements physical and behavioral strategies.
• Provides health services and assistance to students, including changing dressings, assisting with medications, and managing mobility aids.
• Communicates with students, parents, community members, and staff, exercising discretion and protecting student confidentiality.
• Participates in training addressing health needs related to emergencies and responds to emergency medical issues.
• Attends meetings, required trainings, and other professional development opportunities.
• Operates a van for scheduled routes, ensuring safe and timely transportation of students.
• Informs school personnel, parents, and others about practices, rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Maintains assigned van, both interior and exterior, ensuring safety, appearance, and sanitation.
• Performs routine vehicle pre and post trip inspections, reporting mechanical defects if noted.
• Prepares and maintains documentation related to incidents, inspections, passenger misconduct, mileage, and other relevant information.
• Supervises students during transit, maintaining safety and following district policy.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or equivalent demonstrated commitment.
• High School Diploma.
• Ability to operate school vans, prepare and maintain accurate records, and maintain Oregon Driver's License.
• Ability to practice safe driving, perform pre and post trip inspections, and report vehicle defects.
• Flexibility to work with others in various circumstances, scheduling activities, and considering multiple factors.
• Able to be certified or trained in first aid, CPR, and/or operation of defibrillators.
• Able to be trained in behavior intervention methodologies.
• Able to assist, console, and manage students who may be emotional, distraught, or frustrated.
• Able to remain calm, focused, and in control when working with students, parents, guardians, and community members.
• Able to follow written and verbal direction and take initiative when needed.
• Knowledgeable and supportive of district student discipline procedures.
• Effective and accurate command of the English language.
• Able to organize and set priorities for accomplishing work in a timely and effective manner.
• Able to protect the confidentiality of student information consistent with FERPA requirements.
• Able to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, students, parents, volunteers, and community members.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Qualifications

• Coursework in an appropriate and related field of study.
• Two years of experience working successfully with children in a bus route environment.
• Bilingual and bicultural skills.
• Familiarity or willingness to be trained in areas of Down syndrome, Autism, multiple disabilities, mental health disorders, ADHD, etc.

Pay

Initial wage placement according to NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Schedule

Schedule: TBD, subject to change depending on department needs, split shifts. Set time each day may vary due to transportation routing needs and route assignments.

Work Calendar

Minimum 185 days.
