Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school van in accordance with all federal, state, and district regulations.
- Transport students to and from school and on school-sponsored activities and field trips.
- Supervise students during transportation and maintain appropriate student conduct.
- Assist students in boarding and exiting the vehicle safely and in an orderly manner.
- Ensure all students are properly secured in seat belts and/or wheelchairs at all times.
- Provide one-on-one support to students as needed based on individual requirements.
- Conduct required pre-trip inspections and maintain the cleanliness and safe operation of the vehicle.
- Ensure communication devices are operational before each trip.
- Maintain required records and promptly report accidents, mechanical issues, and discipline concerns.
- Assist in emergency situations and follow district emergency procedures.
- Attend required trainings, including Safety-Care or equivalent training provided by the district.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and school personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- A valid Maine Department of Education fingerprinting certification.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to maintain positive student interactions at all times.
- Ability to safely assist students with physical, behavioral, and mobility needs.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to student safety.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, and staff.
