Mission
We are seeking a motivated, self-starting Valvetrain & Timing Drive Design Release Engineer to lead the development of critical valvetrain and timing drive components for gasoline engines, including advanced cylinder deactivation hardware and controls.
Essential Functions
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a core engineering team member, managing multiple priorities while balancing inputs from a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Technical Problem Solving: Resolve complex technical issues utilizing rigorous engineering analysis for components such as camshafts, camshaft phasers, rocker arms, valves, valve seats/guides, valve springs, timing chains, guides, and tensioners.
- Validation & Testing: Plan, coordinate, and monitor test execution using core engineering tools, including DFMEAs and DVP&Rs.
- Data Analysis: Analyze test and measurement data to synthesize data-based conclusions, author summaries, and present actionable recommendations to the broader team.
- Cross-Functional Liaison: Interact daily with Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Engine Plants, Design Groups, and Parts & Service. Note: Some travel to engine plants and suppliers is required.
Profile
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the design and manufacturing of powertrain components.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of valvetrain/timing drive components and related manufacturing processes (e.g., steel stamping, machining, grinding, heat treatment).
- Proficiency with product development documentation, specifically DFMEA and DVP&R.
- Strong grasp of Mechanics of Materials, engine cam timing, CAE Analysis, and GD&T.
- Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems.
- Skills:
- Proven ability to select appropriate materials and manufacturing methods for mechanical components.
- Ability to author clear system- and component-level requirements.
- Strong project management, interpersonal, leadership, and oral/written communication skills.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Direct, hands-on experience with valvetrain or timing drive systems.
- Proven track record in the creation and execution of robust validation plans.
- Working proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably Siemens NX.
- Key Soft Skills: Action-oriented, comfortable dealing with ambiguity, strong customer focus, and an exceptional problem-solver.
