Validation Engineer
Actalent is seeking a Validation Engineer to plan, execute, and document design and process validation activities for automotive and non-automotive projects in a testing laboratory.
About the role
This position focuses on defining test methods, conducting electrical, mechanical, and environmental testing of electro-mechanical switch products, and ensuring all validation activities meet customer and internal specifications while supporting continuous improvement of products and processes.
Responsibilities
- Participate in product reviews to ensure validation requirements are clearly defined and integrated into project plans.
- Review testing requirements and define appropriate testing methods through analysis and interpretation of customer and internal specifications; recommend improvements where necessary.
- Define the scope and content of validation testing in alignment with qualification test plans and project objectives.
- Prepare and document detailed test specifications based on qualification test plans, ensuring clarity and traceability.
- Plan and schedule testing activities in the laboratory for assigned projects, including establishing deadlines, allocating resources, and calculating estimated costs.
- Define, schedule, and ensure the preparation of electrical test fixtures, test boxes, cable harnesses, software, and related equipment required for testing activities.
- Schedule and perform electrical, mechanical, and environmental tests on electro-mechanical switch products in accordance with test requirements and applicable standards.
- Document, analyze, and evaluate test results based on predefined acceptance criteria, ensuring conclusions are supported by data.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of all test results and prepare clear test reports for the development team and customers.
- Coordinate testing activities with external laboratories or other test lab subsidiaries to ensure timely and accurate completion of outsourced tests.
- Support the installation, validation, maintenance, and repair of test equipment and components to ensure reliable operation of the lab.
- Develop and update work instructions for testing procedures and methods, test equipment usage, and process optimization initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and internal customers to share information, resolve issues, and overcome obstacles in testing and validation activities.
- Promote and maintain the 5-S culture in the laboratory, ensuring an organized, efficient, and safe working environment.
- Maintain the laboratory and equipment in a safe, hazard-free condition by following safety procedures and reporting issues promptly.
- Perform additional tasks related to testing and validation as assigned by testing laboratory management to support project and organizational goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with validation, including validation testing, validation protocols, and process validation in engineering contexts.
- Ability to interpret and work from customer and internal specifications to define testing requirements and methods.
- Experience reading technical drawings and engineering specifications to support test planning and execution.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare complex written reports and clearly communicate test results.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products for documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
- Experience reading basic electrical schematics and performing measurements using digital multimeters (DMM), oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
- Ability to analyze and visualize test data to clearly communicate findings and support technical decisions.
- Capability to plan and schedule testing activities, including coordinating resources and timelines.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and documentation of test plans, procedures, and results.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in the automotive field is a plus, particularly with validation of automotive components or systems.
- Experience with project planning and coordination is an advantage.
- Background in validation activities for both automotive and non-automotive projects is beneficial.
- Familiarity with electro-mechanical switch products and related testing methods is desirable.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment and supporting the installation, validation, maintenance, and repair of test equipment is helpful.
- Knowledge of 5-S or similar workplace organization and continuous improvement methodologies is an asset.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, external laboratories, and internal customers.

Work Environment
This role is based in a testing laboratory environment focused on validation of electro-mechanical switch products for automotive and non-automotive applications. The work involves regular use of electrical and electronic test equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, electrical test fixtures, test boxes, and cable harnesses.
The position requires the ability to sit for extended periods while performing analysis, documentation, and data evaluation, as well as the ability to occasionally stand and walk within the lab. The role also requires the ability to regularly lift and move objects weighing up to 10 pounds, such as test fixtures, components, and small equipment. Close vision, color vision, and depth perception are necessary for extended periods to read schematics, observe test setups, and interpret instrument displays. The laboratory follows a 5-S culture, emphasizing organization, cleanliness, and safety, and maintains a safe, hazard-free environment.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $41.00 per hour.
Schedule
This is a contract, fully onsite position based in Cazenovia, NY.
