Vaccine Immunology Program (VIP) Scientist
About the role
We are seeking a Scientist to support the Vaccine Immunology Program (VIP) to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
Responsibilities
- Perform common laboratory duties such as reagent ordering, instrument care, and inventory maintenance.
- Locate and review literature pertinent to projects and identify/modify the most applicable protocols and methods for experiments.
- Contribute to the development of new single-cell next-generation sequencing analyses and workflows.
- Establish and optimize flow cytometry panels for sorting immune cell populations of interest.
- Isolate and stain lymphocytes from blood or tissue for flow cytometry.
- Manage scientific equipment and resources, including acquisition, documentation, and storage, for items such as reagents, stocks of frozen cells, animal samples, etc.
- Participate in project and laboratory meetings.
- Troubleshoot assays and adjust scientific methodology to correct problems or deficiencies in a research project, experiment, or trial.
- Develop and maintain collegial, collaborative relationships with colleagues in the Vaccine Research Center (VRC) research groups.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in biology with TWO (2) years of experience OR bachelor’s degree in biology with FOUR (4) years of experience in lieu of master’s degree.
- Minimum TWO (2) years of experience must be directly related to flow cytometry.
- Knowledgeable in the discipline of viral and vaccine immunology.
- Understanding of the laws, regulations, policies, guidelines, and ethical standards governing research.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, detailed records.
- Ability to multi-task in a high-volume fast-paced work environment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of proper laboratory disposal methods and safety procedures.

- Fluency in English.
Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $74,000.00-$124,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
