Ensures digital products are accessible and usable for clients, branch teams, and colleagues. Uses knowledge of disability, assistive technology, internationally recognized accessibility standards (WCAG), and industry best practices to guide accessible product design, development, and procurement decisions. Partners with stakeholders including Product, Technology, UX, Sourcing, and Legal to create optimal user experiences for users of all abilities.
Responsibilities
- Advocate for the user throughout the design and development process, ensuring solutions address real user needs and contribute to seamless, intuitive experiences.
- Understand the current state of the user experience by auditing existing products and features, identifying user pain points, and aligning with product goals and technical constraints through manual and automated accessibility testing, reporting on findings, and recommending solutions.
- Advise stakeholders (product, technology, and business leadership) on business and accessibility tradeoffs, and the impact design, development, and procurement decisions may have on users with disabilities.
- Assist in the prioritization of accessibility defects and enhancements.
- Guide developers on accessible development practices using knowledge of HTML, CSS, and ARIA.
- Embed accessibility into product team processes and protocols, driving improvements to accessibility maturity.
- Create accessibility annotations for development, including call-outs for keyboard interaction, screen reader announcements, and ARIA guidance.
- Create and lead digital accessibility training that empowers colleagues to incorporate accessibility into their own work.
- Improve cross-accessibility team alignment by facilitating updates to team documentation on patterns and components.
- Take ownership in maturing the accessibility discipline by proposing and leading accessibility program-level initiatives that contribute to quality, consistency, and efficiency in accessibility work.
Requirements
- 7-9 years of professional digital accessibility experience.
- Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Human Computer Interaction, Psychology, Instructional Design, or Computer Science.
- Accessibility certifications such as Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS).
Pay
The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $75.00/hr.
