Utility Worker II - Parks
About the role
The City of Bloomington seeks an experienced electrician or electrician helper to install and alter electrical wiring and apparatus. Candidates must have at least four years of full-time experience in the field, with at least two years prior to the application date. Applicants must be 18 years old and 21 years old for the mechanical focus, and licensed plumbers in Illinois for the plumbing focus. A valid Class B CDL with air brake endorsement is required, along with relevant certifications.
Responsibilities
- Performs carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and welding repairs on city facilities, parks, structures, and equipment.
- Serves as a supervisor for one or more workers.
- Plans, organizes, and directs a work crew.
- Repairs, maintains, or resolves issues on assigned projects.
- Prepares specifications, cost estimates, work write-ups, and manpower usage.
- Operates special equipment, machinery, and various power and hand tools.
- Establishes and maintains maintenance schedules and records for facilities, structures, and machinery.
- Maintains work records and logs.
- Performs snow plowing and ice removal for city buildings and facilities.
Requirements
- At least four years of full-time experience as an electrician or electrician helper.
- Two years of experience prior to the application date.
- Must be 18 years old for the electrical focus, 21 years old for the mechanical focus, and licensed in Illinois for the plumbing focus.
- A valid Class B CDL with air brake endorsement.
- International Code Council (ICC) National Contractor/Trades Examination Program Certification for National Standard Journeyman Mechanical, National Standard for Master Mechanical, National Standard for Master Electrician, or Illinois Plumbing License.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, building systems, and maintenance materials, methods, tools, equipment, and procedures.
- Computer software systems including building HVAC and system controls.
- Specialized tools and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC maintenance, and repairs.
- Planning, organizing, and directing staff or contractors.
- Using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment.
- Proper use and care of general and specialized tools and equipment.
- Operating trucks, plows, snow throwers, scissor lifts, JLG, and other equipment.
- Ability to work independently or with a team.
- Understanding and following general oral and written instructions.
- Welding materials using both gas and electrical units.
- Communicating clearly and professionally with the public and other city employees.
- Attending occasional training as required.
- Physical strength and endurance for manual labor.
- Ability to sit, drive, climb stairs and ladders, bend, kneel, stand, walk for extended periods, and operate motorized equipment.
