UTILITY SYSTEM OPERATOR

About the role

You will serve as a UTILITY SYSTEM OPERATOR in the PUBLIC WORKS of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. "This position is being recruited for the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) and may subsequently be realigned under the Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC)."

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain several potable water systems which require both non filtration and filtration processes to change the taste, odor, physical, chemical, or bacteriological content of the water.
  • Introduce chemical agents into the water systems to keep the water up to acceptable quality standards and maintain necessary records in the accordance with approved methods and procedures.
  • Perform chlorination disinfection on new and repaired water systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as lubricating, making operating adjustments, and cleaning and painting the equipment.
  • Perform water quality analysis for chlorine, ammonia, pH (the measure of the acidity or basicity), hardness, alkalinity, turbidity, conductivity, and taste and order, and performs other test required.
  • Make arithmetic calculations to determine areas, volume, weight-volume relationships, force, pressure head, velocity-flow rate, and chemical doses.

Qualifications

  • I have the ability to perform the full range of tasks including:
    • Operating and maintaining potable water systems which require filtration processes to change the taste, odor, physical, chemical or bacteriological content of the water.
    • Laying out, fabricating, installing and testing water treatment and water distribution systems using contamination control technologies.
    • Performing water quality analysis for chlorine, pH (the measure of the acidity or basicity), hardness, alkalinity, turbidity, conductivity, and taste and order, and performs other tests are required.
    • Making arithmetic calculations to determine areas, volume, weight-volume relationships, force, pressure head, velocity-flow rate, and chemical doses.
  • Work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.

Certifications

  • State of California D2Water Distribution Operator (or must obtain D2 within 7 months of appointment)
  • State of California T2 Water Treatment Operator (or must obtain T2 within 7 months of appointment)
  • State of California W1 Waste Water Operator (or must obtain within 18-24 months of appointment)

Screen-out Element
