Utility Supervisor

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll guide operations, drive quality and safety, and ensure field teams deliver exceptional results every day in the St Paul, Cottage Grove, Hastings, Rosemount, Apple Valley, South St. Paul, Woodbury, Lakeland, Afton, Eagan, and surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee field operations for utility locating and leak detection services.
  • Supervise and support field leads, technicians, and crews to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on time.
  • Provide coaching, training, and professional development opportunities to team members.
  • Collaborate with schedulers, other supervisors, and business lines to efficiently staff and manage projects.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, client specifications, and federal and industry regulations.
  • Conduct weekly safety meetings and champion a culture of health, safety, and quality.
  • Review project data, safety documentation, and quality reports from initiation through closeout.
  • Manage budgets, operating plans, and resource allocation to maintain efficiency and profitability.
  • Partner with internal teams and clients to resolve field issues, improve workflows, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in the hiring, onboarding, and field training of new employees.
  • Assist in locates within your area when needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in utility line locating and/or leak detection (required).
  • Supervisory or crew leadership experience (required).
  • Strong understanding of utility locating equipment, methods, and techniques.
  • Familiarity with leak detection and underground facility infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of utility permitting and applicable safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing and leading teams with a focus on performance and accountability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to travel up to 25–40% as needed.
  • Project management experience and business development exposure a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment and traverse rugged terrain.
  • Must be able to travel to offsite locations for extended periods.
  • Frequent standing and occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs).
  • Exposure to various weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation).
  • Ability to work extended hours when project schedules require.

Pay

The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $30.00 – $35.00 per hour. The actual starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and office/market location.
