Utility Specialist Laborer

Duties

• Operates various equipment, including dump truck, street saw, shovels, jack hammer, pipe saw, and related attachments in effecting the general maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines.
• Hauls, dumps, and shovels crushed stone, sand, dirt, and asphalt from trucks using appropriate equipment.
• Digs ditches, repairs and/or replaces pipes, refills ditches, patches roads, sidewalks, and/or soil, and cleans work site as needed.
• Regularly checks department vehicles and equipment to ensure proper fluid levels and mechanical functioning.
• Ensures appropriate equipment and machinery is available at the work site.
• Performs duties of Water Lineman as needed.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• A high school diploma/GED or combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
• Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
• Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B with air brakes) within probationary period.
• Current CDL-B or CDL-A holders preferred.
• Knowledge of and skill in the operation of department vehicles and related equipment.
• One year of experience working with water, sewer, and/or storm water, preferred.
• Basic knowledge of the mechanics of light and heavy equipment and ability to perform minor maintenance and repairs.
• Knowledge of safety precautions for working in or around department vehicles and equipment, including ability to operate equipment in confined areas.
• Ability to work overtime as instructed.
