Utility Plant Operator - Toms Brook - Maurertown
for sections like About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule. Use - for any list of duties/requirements/benefits, and
for prose. Do NOT repeat job title as heading. Do NOT put Job ID/requisition numbers as headings. Preserve all substantive info, remove boilerplate, duplicated lines, application instructions, etc. Include a section only when posting has real specific content. Avoid filler like "commensurate with experience". So we need to extract substantive content: job summary, essential job functions, additional duties, education and experience, licenses or certifications, knowledge, skills and abilities, physical demands, work environment, pay range, benefits package, maybe schedule? Not given schedule. So we can have sections: About the role (maybe job summary), Responsibilities (essential job functions + additional duties), Requirements (education and experience, licenses/certs), Qualifications (maybe knowledge, skills and abilities?), Skills (maybe part of knowledge, skills and abilities), Benefits (benefits package), Pay (pay range). Schedule not present, so omit.
We must not include filler like "commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity." That's filler? It says "commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity." That's vague; we should omit that phrase. Also "The County offers an excellent benefits package, including Virginia Retirement System, health and dental insurance, vacation and sick leave, and holidays." That's substantive benefits.
We need to remove duplicated lines, boilerplate like EEO statements, accommodation contact, etc. Also remove navigation, "Discover benefits for full-time employment", "Use the Government Jobs tab", etc. Also remove application instructions (submit application, etc.) and contact info, website, etc. Also remove "The County application and position description are available at ..." etc. Also remove "Qualified applicants should submit a complete application..." etc. Also remove "Recruitment will be open until the position is filled..." etc. Also remove "To view a complete job description..." etc. Also remove "Shenandoah County is an Equal Opportunity Employer". Also remove duplicated policy statements at top and bottom.
We need to keep substantive info: Job Summary, Essential Job Functions, Additional Duties, Education and Experience Requirement, Licenses or Certifications, Knowledge, Skills And Abilities, Physical Demands, Work Environment, Pay range, Benefits.
We need to format as HTML with headings
. Use - for any list of duties/requirements/benefits. Use
for prose.
We need to decide which content goes where.
Section "About the role": could be job summary paragraph.
Section "Responsibilities": essential job functions + additional duties (maybe combine). Could list as
- each duty.
Section "Requirements": education and experience requirement.
Section "Qualifications": maybe licenses or certifications? Or we could treat "Licenses or Certifications" as part of Requirements. But we need to follow headings list: About the role, Responsibilities, Requirements, Qualifications, Skills, Benefits, Pay, Schedule. We can use those that have content.
We have knowledge, skills, abilities -> could go under Skills (or Qualifications). We have knowledge of water/wastewater facility operations etc. That's more like knowledge/skills. Could put under Skills.
We have Physical Demands and Work Environment maybe could be under About the role? Or maybe we could create a section "Working Conditions" but not in list. Since only allowed headings are those, we might need to incorporate them elsewhere, maybe under About the role as prose.
We must not invent headings not in list. So we can only use those eight headings. If we have content that doesn't fit, we can incorporate into existing sections as prose or lists.
Thus:
- About the role: job summary paragraph.
- Responsibilities: essential job functions and additional duties as list items.
- Requirements: education and experience requirement (high school diploma or equivalent and basic experience). Also maybe licenses/certs? Could be under Requirements as well.
- Qualifications: maybe we could put "Licenses or Certifications" here? But Qualifications could be knowledge, skills, abilities? Actually Qualifications often includes education, experience, licenses. But we already used Requirements for education/experience. Could shift.
Better: Use Requirements for education and experience. Use Qualifications for licenses or certifications. Use Skills for knowledge, skills and abilities. Use Benefits for benefits package. Use Pay for pay range. Omit Schedule.
We need to avoid filler like "commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity." So we will not include that phrase.
We need to preserve all substantive info: we must not lose any detail. Let's extract details:
Job Summary: "Shenandoah County is recruiting to fill an opening for Utility Plant Operator. The opening is at the Toms Brook - Maurertown Sanitary District. The Utility Plant Operator performs semi-skilled work operating a water or wastewater treatment plant; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Utility Plant Chief Operator."
Essential Job Functions list (sentence with semicolons): "Assists with the operation of water and wastewater treatment plants; performing tests; ensuring proper plant operation; maintaining records and files; preparing reports. Physical Demands: "This is medium work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and feeling; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm’s length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work."
Work Environment: "The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus. The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens or hazardous chemicals and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment."
Pay: "The annual starting pay range for the FLSA Non-Exempt position of Utility Plant Operator is $42,740.87 - $49,152.00." (We should omit the phrase after that about commensurate...).
Benefits: "The County offers an excellent benefits package, including Virginia Retirement System, health and dental insurance, vacation and sick leave, and holidays."
We also have "The successful candidate must pass a pre-employment, post-offer drug screening and background check." That's substantive; could be under Requirements or Qualifications? It's a condition of employment. Could be under Requirements as a bullet.
Also "The County application and position description are available at ..." is application instruction, remove.
Also "Qualified applicants should submit a complete application, cover letter, and resume in person or by mail..." remove.
Also "Applications may also be submitted electronically to jobs@shenandoahcountyva.us." remove.
Also "Recruitment will be open until the position is filled, with a first review of applications on Monday, September 28, 2026." remove.
Also "To view a complete job description for Utility Plant Operator, please Click Here To complete an Application, please Click Here" remove.
Also duplicated policy statements remove.
Now we need to decide where to put drug screening background check. Could be under Requirements as a bullet: "Must pass pre-employment, post-offer drug screening and background check."
Now we need to avoid filler like "commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity." Already omitted.
Now we need to ensure we don't repeat info. Let's craft HTML.
We'll have:
