About the role

Step into an essential role as a Utility Plant Operator 2, where your mechanical expertise directly supports secure, uninterrupted operations. This position works with advanced technology and critical plant equipment to deliver reliable heating and hot water across the entire facility at Warren State Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Boiler Operation: Start up and shut down boilers, operate valves, and monitor gauges and digital controls to maintain safe heat and hot water.
  • Water Testing: Collect samples, test water quality, and treat systems to ensure correct feedwater conditions.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain boilers, pumps, motors, traps, and related systems for safe and efficient operation.
  • Emergency Response: Perform manual emergency fire‑horn operations and make urgent repairs when equipment issues arise.
  • Plant Upkeep: Complete preventive maintenance, clean plant areas, and follow safety procedures during all tasks.
  • Shift Coverage: Rotate shifts to ensure continuous monitoring and operation of the boiler plant.

Qualifications

  • One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (or equivalent Federal Government title), or one year of semi‑skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment, or an equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi‑skilled work experience in those areas.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • Submission and approval of satisfactory criminal‑history reports (PA State Police and FBI clearance) as required by the Older Adult Protective Services Act.

Work Schedule

  • Full‑time, 40 hours per week.
  • Shift hours: 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM.
  • Rotating schedule that includes every other weekend.
  • No telework option.
