Utility Maintenance - 2nd Shift
Tilcon Connecticut Inc., a CRH company, is a leading supplier of quality crushed stone, hot mix asphalt, and ready mix concrete, supporting construction projects across Connecticut from 23 locations. This role is based at the Wallingford Quarry.
About the role
Tilcon Connecticut has an opening for an experienced Utility Maintenance Operator. This is a second-shift position within a team-oriented environment, reporting directly to the Quarry Manager. The role requires strict adherence to MSHA safety requirements and active participation in safety processes. Candidates must be available to work afternoon and evening hours, including overtime as needed. This position offers Operating Engineers Union wages and benefits.
Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently perform utility and maintenance tasks, reporting issues to management promptly.
- Conduct service and maintenance on plant equipment, including accessing platforms and landings using ladders.
- Operate small equipment and perform tasks such as raking, shoveling, inspections, and repairs.
- Follow all company policies and MSHA/OSHA regulations for safe working procedures.
- Adhere to daily task directions provided by the foreperson and meet project expectations.
- Complete daily pre- and post-inspections with proper documentation in compliance with company policies.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude toward coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Report to work on time and remain for the full shift; work overtime as required.
- Work outdoors in extreme temperatures (hot and cold) and strictly follow safety procedures.
- Collaborate effectively in a team environment and assist coworkers or supervisors as needed.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED; trade or mechanical education preferred.
- Maintenance or mechanical experience with a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Availability to work second shift, including overtime, weekends, and additional hours as needed.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Pass pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, and Fit-for-Work physical.
Physical Requirements
The role involves the following physical demands:
- Regularly required to talk, hear, sit, walk, and stand for extended periods.
- Continuous standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and repetitive motion.
- Frequent fine motor skills and occasional squatting, sitting, or driving.
- Frequent lifting of 0–25 lbs and occasional lifting of 25–100 lbs.
- Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions, including exposure to wet/humid conditions.
- Occasional exposure to hot/cold weather, wet conditions, high heat, and loud noise levels.
- Continuous interaction with others and frequent exposure to noise and moving equipment.
