Utility Locator - Fairfax County, VA

Responsibilities

• Respond to utility marking requests (tickets) submitted via the State One Call System (VA811) on behalf of utility customers.
• Interact daily with homeowners, excavators, and utility personnel.
• Access and interpret records/plans using an internet‑enabled laptop computer.
• Use utility locating equipment to accurately mark the horizontal location of underground facilities.
• Enter proper documentation of performed markings into the online ticket management system.
• Adhere to company policies and customer regulations.
• Work independently throughout the day.
• Participate in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation.

Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Familiarity with computers and ability to navigate a file system.
• Reading comprehension skills.

• Ability to prioritize work and meet daily deadlines.
• Successful completion of the in‑house training program.
• Ability to walk on varying terrain, including roadside and construction areas.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb occasionally to access manholes and valve pits.

Schedule

Work hours are 7 AM to approximately 4 PM, Monday through Friday. Weekend and after‑hours work may be required as needed. The position includes participation in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation.

Compensation

Salary ranges from $18.00 to $28.00 per hour, based on individual experience. Bonus programs can increase earnings by up to $2,000 annually.
