About the role

Are you an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys independent field work and is looking to jump‑start your career? USIC, America’s leader in underground utility damage prevention and advanced infrastructure services, is seeking quality‑conscious, safety‑focused, hard‑working individuals for a long‑term career as a Utility Locator. No prior locating experience is required, though experienced locators are encouraged to apply. Technicians work independently in the field using a company‑provided vehicle and best‑in‑class ticket and claims management systems to deliver accurate mark‑out services.

Responsibilities

• Correctly, safely, and efficiently locate underground utilities, including telecommunications, electric power, cable TV, gas, water, and sewer systems.
• Thoroughly search a designated area, accurately mark the location, complete required documentation, and photograph each locate.
• Maintain clear communication with excavators, property owners, and other stakeholders.
• Adhere to a 48‑hour turnaround time on many locates, which may require working the day after holidays and occasional weekends.
• Be available for overtime, weekend shifts, and on‑call shifts (including nights and weekends) as business needs dictate.

Requirements

• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Previous outdoor experience is a plus.
• Proficiency with technology and ability to read locate tickets, maps, and prints.
• Availability to work overtime, weekends, and on‑call shifts as needed.
• Pass a drug screen (safety‑sensitive position).
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, walk, bend, and lift up to 75 lb.
• Ability to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
• Clear communication skills with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners.

Pay

The starting rate ranges from $20.00 per hour for new locators to $30.00 per hour for those with substantial prior locating experience.

Schedule

Daytime, full‑time positions with a typical 48‑hour turnaround on many locates. Work may include overtime, weekend shifts, on‑call shifts (including nights and weekends), and work the day after holidays as needed.
