About the role
The Utility Locator reports to the Construction Manager and is responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to support safe excavation and construction activities. The role involves utilizing mapping tools, location data, and locating equipment to accurately locate underground infrastructure and prevent utility damage.
Responsibilities
- Utilize mapping tools, location data, and locating equipment to identify underground utilities including electric, gas, telephone, and communication lines
- Mark utility locations using paint, flags, and approved marking practices
- Maintain and operate company vehicles and assigned equipment in a safe and professional manner
- Perform locating duties in standard and high-risk environments
- Travel overnight to job sites as needed and perform fieldwork year-round
- Complete physical tasks required to support day-to-day operations safely
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid unrestricted driver’s license required
- OSHA 10 certification required
- CDL preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent underground utility locating experience
- Experience in utility, telecom, excavation, or construction environments preferred

- Ability to lift and move 50-150 lbs. as needed
- Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain
- Ability to perform all work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work around heavy machinery and active construction environments
- Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of surroundings for safe coordination
- Must be able to wear required PPE including hard hat, safety boots, safety glasses, and other applicable safety gear

Salary is determined based on skills and experience in relation to the function of the role, as well as equity to employees in similar roles. Some benefits have eligibility criteria.
Schedule
Fieldwork is performed year-round and overnight travel to job sites may be required.
