About the role
The role involves promoting water conservation by assessing landscape and irrigation systems, providing recommendations, and educating customers on water-smart landscaping practices.
Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and perform irrigation audits for commercial customers on existing systems.
- Contact customers, prepare consumption charts, interview property owners, read and prepare diagrams or site plans.
- Locate irrigation valves, read and modify irrigation controller schedules, and perform other operations.
- Open valve boxes to verify compliance and function, test valve operation and distribution functions.
- Locate damaged or malfunctioning equipment, prepare water budgets based on existing or proposed vegetation.
- Prepare appropriate watering schedules based on soil, plant type, and evapotranspiration.
- Prepare reports for customers and recommend modifications for maximum water savings.
- Maintain records of completed audits.
- Develop, schedule, and deliver landscape and irrigation trainings in person and/or virtually to customers, landscape professionals, and others.
- Demonstrate water-saving landscape and irrigation practices.
- Coordinate with other conservation technicians in performing irrigation audits and related projects.
- Inspect new irrigation system installations for commercial, institutional, and industrial water customers.
- Follow up with customers to recommend appropriate watering schedules and maintenance practices.
- Perform maintenance and repair work at the TecH2O Center.
- Weekly irrigation inspection, minor repair work on emitters, tubing, and valves, tool maintenance, and irrigation parts requisition.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Interact positively with supervisors, contractors, vendors, and coworkers.
- Answer phones, greet customers, answer customer questions, and provide accurate information to inquiries.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, or higher and three (3) years of landscape and irrigation system maintenance, or design and installation experience.
- Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by date of appointment.
- Texas "Landscape Irrigator License" is required at the time of application.
- Must obtain WaterSense Irrigation Auditor certification within six (6) months of hire.

Skills
- Some knowledge of design, installation, and maintenance of irrigation equipment, irrigation systems, and small pumps.
- Good knowledge of proper use and handling of a variety of tools and equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of use of personal computers, including spreadsheet and word processing software.
