Utility Inspector

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage and track NJUNS notifications including pole transfers, attachment additions, and removals.
  • Process and respond to NJUNS requests within established timelines.
  • Maintain accurate records of pole ownership, attachment status, and transfer progress.
  • Coverage with utility companies, municipalities, contractors, and third-party attachers.
  • Monitor and resolve NJUNS discrepancies, rejections, and overdue actions.
  • Schedule and oversee field inspections for pole attachments and make-ready work.
  • Verify field work complies with NESC standards and company specifications.
  • Review completed pole transfer audits and attachment installations.
  • Identify non-compliant conditions and ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Support post-construction inspections and project closeout activities.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to support project execution.

Required Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of experience in utility operations, telecommunications, pole attachment management, joint use, or related utility infrastructure work.
  • Strong understanding of NJUNS processes and utility pole attachment workflows.
  • Knowledge of NESC standards and clearance requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret utility distribution and communication construction drawings.
  • Experience with GIS, AutoCAD, or other mapping/design platforms.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to perform occasional field verification activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Telecommunications, GIS, or a related field.
  • Experience with pole attachment programs, make-ready coordination, or joint use operations.
  • Prior experience working with utility companies, municipalities, telecom providers, or engineering firms.
  • Experience performing or coordinating field inspections.
  • Knowledge of utility compliance and regulatory requirements.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
