About the role

The position serves the utility needs of St. Johns County residents by maintaining and repairing potable water, reclaimed water, and wastewater distribution and collection systems. The role supports the county's mission to provide safe and reliable water services.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in the maintenance and repair of water and wastewater distribution/collection/transmission systems.
  • Performs installation, replacement, and relocation of water and wastewater system components.
  • Assists in detecting and addressing leaks in the water and wastewater systems.
  • Processes service disconnects for unpaid bills.
  • Participates in the installation of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) controls.
  • Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Responds to after-hours work requests for maintenance and repair, including emergencies and weekends.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license, with the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Florida commercial driver’s license class “B” or class “A” with “N” endorsement within one year of employment.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater systems, construction, operation, maintenance, and safety practices.
  • Ability to operate various vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as sitting, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs, and standing.

Skills

  • Basic principles and practices of water and wastewater systems.
  • Interpretation and understanding of technical manuals and blueprints.
  • Problem-solving and solution development abilities.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.

Benefits

St. Johns County offers a competitive salary range of $38,833.60 - $51,875.20, depending on experience, and compensation grade BCC PG10. The position is part of a drug-free workplace and equal opportunity employer.

$38,833.60 - $51,875.20 per year, depending on experience.

Schedule

Full-time position with rotating on-call responsibilities for after-hours work requests.
