Utility Clerk (DC)

About the role

This position keeps the warehouse facility in a clean and orderly condition by performing heavy cleaning duties. The role is an Outbound position with a shift starting at 2:00pm.

Responsibilities

• Service, clean, and supply restrooms
• Gather and empty trash
• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them
• Sweep, mop, and dust warehouse storage areas, breakroom, and offices using hand tools or powered equipment
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
• Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
• Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
• Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
• Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies manually or using hand trucks
• Stack debris and trash (e.g., cardboard, tape, shrink-wrap) and transport it using a pallet jack to a trash compactor
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Minimum one year of experience in commercial cleaning; warehouse experience preferred
• Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of janitorial service
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules
• Knowledge of the proper use of chemicals
• Ability to follow instructions and manage time to ensure all work is completed daily
• Ability to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning compounds
• Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment used to clean buildings and furniture
• Knowledge of the qualities and uses of various cleaning, sanitizing, stripping, and waxing compounds
• Knowledge of building and property security procedures

Physical Requirements

• Most work is performed in a distribution center
• Exposure to unpleasant and noxious fumes and odors
• Requires bending, reaching, and standing for extended periods
• Requires lifting, pushing, and pulling mops, brooms, and other cleaning equipment
• Exposure to hazardous cleaning solutions
