The Utility is responsible for all areas of meal clean-up and dining prep, assisting the Dining Room Manager and/or Culinary Director to ensure a high level of hospitality, service, and satisfaction for residents and guests in a senior living community offering independent living, assisted living, or memory care.
Responsibilities
- Collect dishes and kitchen utensils from the tables during mealtimes.
- Wash dishes and kitchen utensils, assuring highest standards of cleanliness.
- Eliminate stains from all utensils.
- Monitor the temperature of the dishwashing machine daily to ensure proper operation; notify the Culinary Director of any issues.
- Remove cracked or broken dishes or damaged utensils from service and report damage to the Culinary Director.
- Store dishes, glassware, and utensils properly for the next mealtime.
- Follow established methods of meal preparation and decoration under the direction of the Culinary Director.
- Set up tables and beverage station; refill salt, pepper, and sugar dispensers.
- Ensure salads and desserts are properly portioned as directed.
- Serve meals to residents promptly and courteously; deliver meals to residents’ rooms as needed.
- Dispose of all trash properly.
- Clean the dishwashing machine inside and out after each shift.
- Deep-clean the kitchen monthly.
- Sweep and mop the kitchen floor, walk-in refrigerator, and freezer each evening.
Requirements
- Six (6) months or more of experience in a commercial kitchen operation is preferred.
- Must have a food handler’s permit as required by state and/or local authority.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Caring, organized, and able to multi-task.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English with residents, families, guests, and associates.
