Utilities Technician

About the role

The Utilities Technician role is a full-time, on-site position located in Nevada, IA. This role supports the production of fully cooked meat products by operating, monitoring, and maintaining plant utilities systems.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret meters and gauges
• Perform routine inspections
• Identify and troubleshoot utility and electrical equipment issues
• Complete preventive maintenance
• Assist with repairs
• Follow safety, sanitation, and food safety procedures
• Collaborate with maintenance, production, and quality teams
• Communicate status updates and issues clearly
• Document work performed in logs or maintenance systems

Requirements

• Ammonia Level 1 Certification (with a minimum score of 70%)
• HAZMAT certification
• Respirator fit test
• Working knowledge of ammonia flow processes
• Experience with ammonia control stations and system operations
• Background in mechanical and electrical systems
• Specific training in ammonia refrigeration and industrial boiler and HVAC operation
• Excellent technical writing and verbal communications skills
• Ability to learn and use various software programs including the Company’s Maintenance Management System and building management systems
• Valid driver’s license

Qualifications

This role requires a solid background in mechanical and electrical systems, specific training in ammonia refrigeration and industrial boiler and HVAC operation, and experience with ammonia control stations and system operations. Candidates must also have a working knowledge of ammonia flow processes and be able to read and work from Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technical manuals.
