About the role
The role of this individual is to provide manual labor and equipment operation for construction of water, reuse and sewer works projects. Performs routine maintenance activities in a variety of work environments.
Responsibilities
- Comply with all applicable safety, security, and environmental rules and ADEQ regulations, and city policies and procedures.
- Perform ditch construction excavation.
- Aid equipment operator to watch for existing facilities and obstacles in ground to prevent damage.
- Aid equipment operator lubricate and bell together pipe joints. Properly tighten glands.
- Aid equipment operator to keep trench on grade during excavations.
- Shovel as needed around objects.
- Remove rocks from trench as needed.
- Rake as needed to form proper trench bed/spread gravel.
- Install concrete and pavement after utilities repair.
- Flushing and line maintenance as needed.
- Make service connections (taps) for water, reclaimed, and wastewater.
- Assist with construction projects within water and wastewater systems.
- Operate equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Flag traffic as needed.
- Help with water, reclaimed and sewer leaks as needed.
- Work on standby rotation and maintain on-call status as required.
- Aid equipment operator, Construction Manager in performance of various duties.
Requirements
- Education & Experience/Licensing & Training:
- Classification: Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Licenses Required: Valid State Issued Driver's License
- Supplemental Required Training: Will Be Provided By The City
Qualifications
- Knowledge Of Methods, policies, and procedures of construction techniques as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Utilities Construction Technician I/II/III.
- Compliance with all applicable safety, security, and ADEQ rules and regulations, OSHA rules, and city policies and procedures.
- Methods, organization and planning as they pertain to the performance of duties of the position and as reflected in the needs and requirements of Utility Operations Division.
- Laws, ordinances, standards, and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Terminology used within the Utility Operations Division.
Skills
- Use a variety of hand and power tools in the maintenance, repair and testing of water, reclaimed and sewer systems.
- Maintain accurate records and reports.
- Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
- Complete time sheets electronically on a computer or tablet.
- Routinely enter/exit trenches.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Analyze and recognize problems and potential problems and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Comprehend, interpret, and apply policies, procedure, rules, and regulations.
- Communicate clearly and concisely.
