About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior User Experience Designer to join our Higher Education team remotely within the United States. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design and development of user-centered educational platforms and tools that enhance learning experiences for students and educators. Your expertise will help craft accessible, engaging, and intuitive interfaces across multiple digital platforms, including web and mobile applications. As a senior member of the UX team, you will drive strategic design initiatives, mentor junior designers, and collaborate closely with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure cohesive, high-quality user experiences. Your work will directly influence how learners and institutions interact with McGraw Hill’s innovative educational solutions, ultimately shaping the future of digital education technology.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design strategy for educational platforms and study solutions that meet the needs of diverse learners and institutions.
• Develop and deliver innovative, accessible, and engaging user interfaces for web and mobile applications.
• Champion user-centered design principles throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with product managers, developers, and stakeholders to ensure design consistency and alignment with business goals.
• Conduct user research, usability testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions and optimize user experiences.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior designers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
• Ensure all designs adhere to accessibility standards and promote inclusive learning environments.
• Contribute to the overall UX vision by aligning design strategies with learner needs and institutional requirements.
• Drive the adoption of best practices in UX design and stay updated on emerging trends and technologies.

Requirements

• BA/BFA degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5-7+ years of professional UX design experience, with a proven track record of designing complex digital solutions.
• Demonstrated experience in creating user-centered designs for web and mobile platforms.
• At least 2 years of leadership or mentorship experience within a design team.
• Strong portfolio showcasing expertise in system design, cross-platform experiences, and innovative user interfaces.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively in fast-paced, collaborative environments.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with a focus on usability and accessibility standards.
• Experience working with Agile methodologies and cross-functional teams.
