About the role
The Core UI design team within the R&D Foundation Division is seeking a UX Designer specializing in Data Visualization to help shape SAS’s graph experiences. This role focuses on designing intuitive, high-quality data visualizations that power analytics across SAS products.
Responsibilities
- Define and promote reusable UX patterns for graph components, partnering across teams to ensure consistent, high-quality adoption and alignment with design system standards
- Create data visualization experiences that support exploration, analysis, and insight generation
- Create intuitive, graphical interaction patterns for analytical workflows
- Communicate complex data concepts through clear, effective visuals
- Design and prototype 2D and 3D graph experiences, including spatial and advanced visual representations
- Contribute to the SAS Graph Library within the Filament Design System, helping define reusable visualization patterns, standards, and components
- Partner closely with other data visualization designers, engineering, and product teams to ensure high-quality implementation of graphing solutions
- Apply user research and feedback to refine visualization usability and effectiveness
- Collaborate with accessibility specialists to support inclusive and usable data visualization practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in UX, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Graphic Design, Information Science, Animation, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in UX design, product design, or data visualization design
- Strong foundation in data visualization principles (e.g., chart selection, visual encoding, data storytelling)
- Experience designing interactive analytical experiences for complex or data-rich applications
- Experience with 3D visualization and modeling tools or technologies (e.g., Blender, WebGL, Three.js, or similar)
- Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite)
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams on visualization implementation
- Strong communication skills and ability to translate complex data concepts into intuitive designs

- Online portfolio demonstrating data visualization work, including interactive or analytical experiences
