Position Summary

The Sr. Manager (IC), Data Science - Last Mile Optimization role at Walmart is responsible for developing end-to-end operations decision optimization engines, predictive simulation capabilities, and evaluating business cases for logistics and supply chain improvements.

What you'll do

  • Develop an operations decision optimization engine balancing supply and demand while optimizing cost to serve and service levels.

  • Evaluate holiday, Q4 peak, and weather event scenarios to optimize supply vs. demand shaping strategies.

  • Evaluate and communicate technical approaches to stakeholders, including senior leadership.

  • Identify and review model evaluation metrics based on analytical needs.

  • Analyze large datasets and optimize algorithms using programming languages like Python, R, CPLEX, and SQL.

  • Mentor and guide data science professionals to enhance their skills and project quality.

About the team

The Last-Mile Delivery team at Walmart integrates real-time data, AI, and scalable platforms to enhance delivery operations. This role leverages data science to optimize last-mile delivery performance and contribute to Walmart’s supply chain excellence and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 3 years' experience in an analytics related field.

    • Option 2: Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and 1 years' experience in an analytics related field.

    • Option 3: 5 years' experience in an analytics or related field.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Data science, machine learning, optimization models.
    • PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics.
    • Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
    • Supervisory experience.
    • Experience using open source frameworks (e.g., scikit learn, tensorflow, torch).
