Position Summary

The Senior Distinguished I, Data Scientist, leads the design and implementation of advanced data-driven and AI native solutions to address complex business challenges. This role involves leveraging expertise in GenAI, machine learning, data visualization, and analytics to generate actionable insights that drive strategic decision-making. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop scalable models, guide data strategy, and influence business outcomes. The incumbent mentors associates, ensures adherence to data governance standards, and continuously advances analytical capabilities to support Walmart’s objectives and innovation initiatives.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement AI native applications and software products using GenAI coding tools

  • Design and implement advanced data visualization solutions to communicate complex insights effectively

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into data-driven strategies and actionable models

  • Lead the development and deployment of data analysis products, ensuring alignment with business objectives and scalability requirements

  • Define data governance standards and quality guidelines to support robust analytical modeling and data management

  • Mentor teams on best practices in analytics, visualization, validation and GenAI development to drive continuous improvement

  • Influence strategic decisions by integrating data insights with business context and measuring return on investment

The team integrates expertise in software engineering, data science, AI, and rapid experimentation to build scalable platforms enabling intelligent automation and customer-focused AI solutions. Emphasizing iteration speed and practical impact, the team develops adaptive systems that learn from real-world data. Members address complex challenges to deliver secure, production-ready software within a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement. Leveraging skills in predictive analytics, data strategy, machine learning, Python, and data visualization, the team drives meaningful business outcomes and advances technology initiatives aligned with organizational objectives.

What you'll bring

  • Extensive expertise in data science, including advanced statistical methods and machine learning algorithms

  • Proficiency in multiple data visualization tools such as Python, R, Tableau, and PowerBI to create compelling data stories

  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality standards, and data ecosystem management

  • Ability to design and implement scalable machine learning models aligned with business objectives

  • Experience in defining data requirements and leveraging multiple data sources for analytical modeling

  • Skilled in coding languages including Python, SQL, and Java, with a focus on testing and deployment

  • Skilled in developing software products with GenAI coding tools

  • Proven capability to influence business strategy through data-driven insights and ROI evaluation

Minimum Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 7 years' experience in an analytics related field

  • Option 2: Master’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years' experience in an analytics related field

  • Option 3: 9 years' experience in an analytics or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data science, machine learning, optimization models

  • PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics

  • Publishations or active peer reviewer in related journals or conference

  • Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R

  • Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch)

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $192,000.00 - $384,000.00
