About the Role

Provides evidence-based vision care to ensure patients' health and well-being by recommending and prescribing medications and other treatment options. Delivers routine vision care, educates patients and store associates on eye health, and consults with other health professionals to coordinate patient care plans in accordance with optometry scope of practice per state board.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients' health conditions through comprehensive eye examinations, including visual acuity, visual function, eye health, keratometry, and refraction.
• Review complete patient medical history and perform examinations using observation instruments and pharmaceutical agents to diagnose vision defects such as injury, disease, or abnormality.
• Prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision aids.
• Suggest, order, interpret, and assess diagnostic tests (e.g., glaucoma testing, macular degeneration Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)).
• Provide additional vision treatment, such as foreign body removal, and develop treatment plans based on clinical presentation using evidence-based care guidelines.
• Deliver exceptional customer service through all patient interactions and maintain/update patient information in vision center systems (e.g., BOSS) accurately and confidentially.
• Assist vision center staff (e.g., opticians) on best practices and ensure adherence to state, local, and federal healthcare regulations and Walmart Vision Center guidelines.
• Perform administrative and retail tasks, such as financial transactions, patient registration, and retail transactions.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., pharmacists, clinics, store management) and external healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and integrated patient care.
• Analyze business objectives and customer needs to develop, communicate, and implement business strategies, plans, and practices.
• Analyze costs, forecasts, and resource requirements to support operational processes and measure outcomes.
• Identify and capitalize on improvement opportunities, promote a customer-focused environment, and demonstrate adaptability.
• Develop and implement strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce, including recruiting, selecting, and developing talent.
• Support mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning while leveraging the capabilities of new and existing talent.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in Optometry (OD) from an accredited optometry school.
• Licensed optometrist in good standing in the state of practice.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of a post-graduate year one (PGY-1) in an area of emphasis (e.g., family practice, low vision care, pediatric or geriatric optometry, ocular disease).

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $135,000.00 - $200,000.00. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses and Regional Pay Zone (RPZ) adjustments based on location.
