About the role
This position supports the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care within Banner Health Urgent Care. The Medical Assistant assists healthcare providers with clinical procedures, patient assessments, and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic. The incumbent will float to other Banner Health Urgent Care clinics within the surrounding area based on operational needs.
Location: Banner Health Urgent Care – Tucson
Responsibilities
- Prepares patient for exam and treatment by taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, and other necessary measurements; documents chief complaint and pain scores as appropriate.
- Reports condition of patient which may indicate a change in the patient's condition to the clinician.
- Assists providers with exams and minor in-office procedures, including taking blood pressure, documenting respiration and heart rate/pulse, taking temperature, performing phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs.
- Acts as chaperon as needed.
- Uses universal blood and body fluid precautions at all times and personal protective equipment as needed.
- Prioritizes patient flow through the clinical process.
- Coordinates and manages patient care, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling for clinic, hospital, and other medical treatments.
- Communicates test results to patients.
- Acts as a resource to clinicians to provide optimal patient care.
- May administer medications in accordance with established policies and procedures or as directed.
- Provides clerical support, including patient notifications and documentation (e.g., medical records, labs, authorizations, X-rays, hospital records).
- Ensures complete and accurate billing information for patient encounters in a timely fashion.
- Maintains a clean, functional environment, including cleaning and disinfection of equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas.
- Disinfects equipment and instruments using appropriate solutions following sterilization procedures and OSHA guidelines.
- Performs basic maintenance of equipment and coordinates repairs as needed.
- Orders and stocks supplies for patient care areas.
- Manages medication ordering, expired medications/equipment, and recalls.
- Develops and maintains effective communication with all external and internal customers.
- Completes necessary on-boarding and orientation activities, including simulation training.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
- Active Medical Assistant Certification is required (e.g., RMA, CMA, CCMA, NCMA).
- BLS certification required.
- Strong computer skills, including experience with medical software.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.
- Employees working in behavioral health clinical settings serving children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and sign an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with office medical procedures, treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
Schedule
Full-Time (Three 12-hour shifts per week). Variable schedule; must be available to work any day of the week, including weekends.
