About the role
Urban Outfitters is looking for an Associate Buyer in Home to deliver the sales and profit plan for a class through the precise execution of a well-conceived merchandise strategy. Lead product development of online exclusive product and edit to appropriate private label and branded selections.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate an understanding of the UO target customer and the ability to select the appropriate product/trend that will appeal to the customer and meet their expectations.
- Recognize new fashion trends and work with design to translate appropriate new ideas from blogs, street and aspirational sources.
- Manage an Open-To-Buy (OTB) and exhibit retail math skills to achieve bottom line performance.
- Exhibit a professional communication style (both verbal and written) through strong presentation skills, excellent organizational skills and a high sense of urgency.
- Prioritize tasks to balance the immediate and long term needs of the business.
- Merchandise Analysis: Analyze weekly and monthly sales, stock and on-order to optimize sales and minimize markdowns; react quickly to trends in the business.
- Merchandise Planning: Work with the Buyer and Planner to revise plans for sales and margin optimization; ensure buying direction is on target based on comprehensive analysis of the business.
- OTB (Open-To-Buy) Management: Manage financial elements (OTB, IMU, MDs, etc.) for assigned classes; ensure receipt plans are tightly managed and orders placed on a timely basis.
- Manage Styleouts: Ensure each item is a winner and the assortment is balanced by looks, silhouettes, fabrics, patterns, color, price points, and inventory position.
- E-Commerce: Assist in selecting new products for the e-commerce division from retail’s assortment; suggest category extensions/web exclusives to drive growth.
- Product Development: Work with designers, Market, and Design to manage timelines; attend all fittings to ensure standardized sizing.
- Vendor Relations: Develop beneficial relationships with key vendors; manage vendor performance through negotiation and communication to maximize profitability and ensure optimal supply chain operations.
- Communication: Ensure appropriate communication with stores; develop collaborative relationships with internal teams (production, planning, creative, catalog, DC, retail).
Qualifications
- Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion, Business, or a related field
- Experience Requirement: 3 years in retail or direct buying office having served as an Associate Buyer or Senior Level Assistant Buyer
