Upward Bound Instructor - High School Math
About the role
The High School Math Instructor will be responsible for teaching the following courses: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra 11 or Pre-calculus/Calculus. Conduct teaching and instructional activities using educational equipment, manipulative objects, props, and other learning aids. Prepare and submit a course outline prior to the start of the class, assist with the planning, instruction, and evaluation of tutoring and problem-solving activities. Complete paperwork associated with classroom and project management. Make recommendations on students' strengths and needs. Report student learning and behavioral issues to the appropriate staff personnel. Assist with the training and evaluation of Teacher Assistants.
Responsibilities
- Conduct an integrated academic math class (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-calculus/Calculus)
- Teach students learning strategies
- Prepare and submit a course outline prior to the start of the class
- Aid in the planning, instruction, and evaluation of tutoring and problem-solving activities
- Complete paperwork associated with classroom and project management
- Make recommendations on students' strengths and needs
- Report student learning and behavioral issues to the appropriate staff personnel
- Assist with the training and evaluation of Teacher Assistants
- Attend training and meetings
- In the event of an absence, provide 24-hour notice and ensure classroom and TA work are prepared
- Transport students from one class location to another in a timely manner, ensuring proper supervision and safety of students
Requirements
- Two or more years of teaching experience at the high school or post-secondary level
- Complete a background clearance check
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in the designated discipline
- Experience working with minority and disadvantaged students at the middle school, high school or post-secondary level
Qualifications
- Ability to plan, organize, develop and conduct a comprehensive instructional tutoring program for students enrolled in the Upward Bound Program
Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities
- Knowledge of educational technology and resources

Pay
The hourly range for this position is $40.00-$50.00 (USD).
