Upper School World Language Teacher - French

Key Responsibilities

  • Teaches a full time load of 5 classes
  • Guides an advisory
  • Keeps accurate grades using Standard Based Grading
  • Communicates with students and families with feedback and progress on academic learning throughout the year
  • Knows and uses a wide range of assessment strategies consistent with course content and objectives
  • Provides reports on student progress and maintains open communication
  • Differentiates instruction and assessment to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Identifies students who need additional academic assistance and is able to refer students appropriately to the Student Support Team
  • Provides opportunities for student expression using spoken, written, and electronic forms of communication
  • Provides a safe learning environment in which students can take intellectual risks
  • Uses learning resources and technology to enhance lessons where appropriate
  • Creates an environment that is respectful and fosters a global mindset
  • Demonstrates effective organizational skills, including lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, and designing and implementing assessments
  • Exercises classroom management with the use of fair and consistent standards and appropriate expectations that are clearly articulated to the students
  • Utilizes learning management and student information systems provided by the school
  • Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school; demonstrates behavior that is professional as identified in Employee Handbook (inside and outside of school)
  • Continues to grow professionally by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations
  • Exercises flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunities
  • Participates in school-wide events; attends during and after-school functions in support of school community

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years Upper School teaching experience
  • IB Language A /B experience preferred (Language A/B, Spanish, French or Mandarin)
  • Professional-level fluency in the target language, including the ability to teach, assess, and communicate complex academic content
  • Commitment to the school’s mission, core values, and inclusion statement
  • Comprehensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction within the appropriate content area and/or grade level
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
  • Effective organizational skills including but not limited to lesson planning, implementing units of study, differentiating instruction, designing and implementing assessments
  • Ability to monitor student progress and report information in a timely manner
  • Ability to manage, delegate and monitor tasks
  • Ability to mentor and coach students, acts as a student achievement advocate and advisor
  • Highly developed collaborative skills and the ability to work well with others
