UPPER SCHOOL GEOMETRY TEACHER (MATERNITY LEAVE)

About the Role

We are seeking a full-time maternity leave replacement to teach four sections of Geometry to ninth grade students. The math curriculum focuses on:

• Developing a deep mathematical understanding of why mathematical ideas work and how they connect across topics such as algebra, geometry, functions, and modeling.
• Cultivating reasoning, sense-making, and the ability to justify solutions.
• Building procedural fluency and applying mathematics to real-world situations.
• Mastering the six major conceptual areas of math (number & quantity, algebra, functions, modeling, geometry, and statistics & probability) to prepare students for college mathematics, technical fields, and informed citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Teaching four sections of geometry (two sections of College Prep Geometry and two sections of Honors Geometry).
• Providing academic support for students outside of class time during office hours.
• Collaborating and participating actively in the work of the math department on best practices in curriculum development, pedagogy, and assessment.

The teacher will join a congenial and collegial department of five faculty members, supervised and supported by the math department chair and the head of the upper school.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in math or a related field.
• Enthusiasm for teaching and experience with high school-age students.
• Willingness to explore new methodologies and technologies for instruction.
• Computer literacy, proficiency with technology in the classroom, and ability to effectively utilize a learning management system.
