Upholstery Technician

Primary responsibilities

  • Perform vehicle upholstery restoration, preservation, and personalization services
  • Recommend and perform upholstery services on but not limited to all interior vehicle components to Porsche factory standards
  • Review repair orders, maintain production status database, and discuss work with supervisors
  • Interact with vehicle owning customers as part of the project team
  • Ability to explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals which may include employees and customers on an as-required basis
  • Find parts and available materials, synchronize workflow and coordinate vehicle cycle and put together parts and material, visually check for identity and errors, report material availability to managers
  • Plan work procedures, using charts, technical manuals, and check the quality parameters and completeness of the work carried out on the basis of the content of procedures
  • Examine vehicles and framework for defects, make repairs as needed prior to upholstery application and other finish work
  • Maintain necessary training to meet Porsche Classic Standards
  • Perform care and cleaning work according to the plan or as needed of parts, vehicle or work space
  • Support test drives, correct deficiencies, and perform final inspection of vehicles or the assembly; implement safety procedures
  • Use power and hand tools to apply and install batting, foam, poly-filler and cut fabric to steel and/or carbon fiber framework
  • Attach finishes, including trim, stitching, piping, and other accessories to complete projects to required specifications
  • Measure and cut fabric or leather materials with the aid of patterns or stencils and industrial cutting tools to precise sizes and dimensions
  • Operate portable hand-sewing equipment, nail guns, hobnail and tack hammers, hot-knife cutters, and other industrial equipment
  • Manage and report on project execution, problem solve with supervisors to improve workshop efficiency
  • Perform 5S in the upholstery workshop and support throughout the full Restoration facility

Qualifications

  • Automotive technical degree preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Required qualifications include: 7 years' experience in vehicle upholstery repair and manufacturing
  • Upholstery experience on various substrate materials such as aluminum, steel, carbon fiber, and carbon Kevlar
  • 5 years' experience in concours level vehicle upholstery maintenance, repair, and manufacturing
  • 5 years' experience in fabric material, adhesive, and special tool procurement
  • Preferred qualifications include: 3 years' experience in vehicle upholstery of classic Porsche vehicles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects
  • Fluency in English (oral/written)
  • Highly organized, target oriented mindset, works well without close supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • High possession of Porsche passion
  • German language a plus
  • Excellent knowledge of Classic range of Porsche Vehicles
  • Excellent knowledge of Porsche interior parts
  • Proficient in Porsche special tools and service equipment
  • Proficient in computer skills
  • Experience with CDK software desired
  • Valid Driver's license
  • Clean Driving Record
  • Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle
  • Ability to work on varying height workbenches
