About the Role
The Unloader is responsible for sorting and distributing incoming merchandise to specified sorters to supplement store productivity and increase sales. This position sets the pace for the entire production process and plays a critical role in maintaining workflow efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Tally every full donation container with a supervisor before unloading.
- Unload boxes and bags from carts, melon boxes, and other containers, opening them and removing items.
- Separate saleable items from trash, ensuring debatable items are sent to the sorter for evaluation.
- Place non-saleable items into trash or a hamper for baling.
- Push processed, saleable items to the appropriate sorter or place them into bins at the workstation, ensuring variety for sorters.
- Meet timelines and production goals while maintaining cleanliness and organization of the work area for safety and efficiency.
- Ensure full carts are in place and work with the Back Up to replace empty carts, remove trash, and maintain workflow.
- Communicate with supervisors, sorters, and the Back Up to ensure smooth and quick product flow.
- Maintain a hazard-free environment by picking up loose items, cleaning spills, and reporting hazards to a supervisor.
- Adhere to the organization’s safety policy and practice it consistently.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested by supervisors or managers.
Requirements
- Ability to work as a productive team member with strong communication skills.
- Must be able to stand or walk for 100% of the work shift.
- Ability to reach above shoulder height, bend, and crouch.
- Must have eye-hand coordination and the ability to concentrate on details for the entire shift.
- Ability to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to push donation racks weighing up to 400 lbs.
- Ability to move up to 500 lbs with the aid of a pallet jack or dolly.
- Repetitive use of hands is required.
- Flexibility with scheduling changes and occasional overtime due to store needs.
Working Conditions
- Works inside a production environment with exposure to temperature fluctuations, dust, and debris from donations.
- Physical demands include continuous standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
