About the role
The Teacher Education Program in the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education at the School of Education and Human Development is seeking University Student Teacher Supervisors (USTS) to provide supervision to student teachers in multiple teacher licensure programs.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate meetings with mentor teacher/student teacher pairs
- Conduct in-person and video observation cycles with student teachers (3 cycles in the fall semester and 5 cycles in the spring semester)
- Communicate students' progress to the Teacher Education faculty and staff
- Utilize a web-based video observation tool to provide targeted feedback to students
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree is required, Masters Degree is preferred
- At least three years of full-time experience teaching PreK-12 students in public schools
- Knowledge of current best practices in education
- A current or previously held professional teaching license
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- A master's degree in education, five or more years of teaching experience, previous experience mentoring student teachers, and experience working with novice teachers are also preferred
- Comfortable with frequent email, text, and Zoom check-ins with their students, as well as the use of learning assessment and management systems
- Proficiency with a range of technology platforms
Qualifications
- High-speed internet access and personal tablets or computers with video streaming capability
- Experience using learning/assessment management programs
- Ability to respond to email or text inquiries within 24 hours

- Travel to Charlottesville and Albemarle County area is preferred to minimize travel time and expenses
- Additional coaching and support to the students may be provided if needed
- Communication with the academic program coordinators and seminar instructors of their students, as well as the Teacher Education Office
- All initial meetings, initial observations, and final evaluation meetings are in-person with other meetings held on Zoom
- Mileage reimbursement is provided for up to three meetings per semester
Pay
- $287/student for coaching fall Internship I students
- $575/student for coaching spring Internship II students
Schedule
- This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year
