About the role

This position serves as a multi-skilled professional performing the full spectrum of law enforcement, investigation, and emergency services. The primary duty is enforcing state and local laws, and university traffic rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce state and local laws, and university traffic rules and regulations.
  • Ensure public safety through enforcement and education.
  • Patrol university properties and adjacent areas to protect persons and property, and deter criminal activity.
  • Operate various vehicles and equipment, including motorcycles, bicycles, and specialized equipment.
  • Aid and assist individuals in danger, victims of crime, accidents, or illness.
  • Respond to public assemblies, protests, and special events.
  • Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations into criminal activities.
  • Prepare and execute search and arrest warrants.
  • Train in and perform crowd control tactics.
  • Conduct emergency first aid, CPR, Narcan, Epi-pen, and AED therapy.
  • Assist campus businesses with escorting funds and assisting the public.
  • Perform dignitary protection, plain clothes patrol, undercover operations, and other covert tasks.
  • Respond to mass casualty incidents, hostage situations, active shooter/terrorist threats, and other emergencies.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years old, eligible to be a police officer in Massachusetts, and have no felony/criminal convictions. Must have a valid Massachusetts Class A License To Carry a firearm, and hold certifications in First Responder/CPR/AED/Narcan and Epi-pen.

Qualifications

  • Entry Level Police Officer: Associate's degree or equivalent military service, or completion of the Massachusetts Correction Officer Training Academy with one year of post-academy experience.
  • Lateral Police Officer: Valid graduate certificate of training from a police academy approved by the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC), and current Massachusetts Class A License To Carry a firearm.

Skills

Strong oral and written communication skills, physical stamina, ability to work in all weather conditions, and adherence to safety procedures are essential.

Pay

Salary Grade: NEPBA Grade 16, with a step scale available for reference.

Schedule

Shift and hours vary, typically 4 days on, 2 days off (40 hours per week), with nights and weekends as needed.
