MUSC Department of Surgery in Charleston, South Carolina, seeks a board-certified or board-eligible plastic surgeon to join the faculty in the Division of Plastic Surgery. This role focuses on augmenting and developing the breast reconstruction program, educating residents and fellows, and contributing to the division’s growth.

About the Role

We seek a motivated individual to join our team of seven attending surgeons and fifteen surgical residents. The successful candidate will contribute to our academic mission through clinical care, education, and scholarly activities. The Division of Plastic, Reconstructive & Hand Surgery at MUSC boasts fully accredited programs for both integrated residency and independent fellowship training. With over 800 beds across the Main University Hospital, Ashley River Tower, Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital (250 beds), and Pediatric and Adult Burn facilities, MUSC serves a diverse population of over 800,000 in the Low Country of South Carolina.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional clinical care in Plastic and Breast Reconstruction Surgery.
  • Actively participate in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, publications, and presentations.
  • Contribute to the academic and clinical growth of the department and institution.

Requirements

  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Plastic Surgery (candidates in the last year of residency training will be considered).
  • Fellowship training in microsurgery preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated interest in research, graduate, and undergraduate education.

  • Ability to reach in all directions (Frequent: 2-6 hours per shift).
  • Possess good finger dexterity (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift).
  • Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift).
  • Ability to lift and carry 15 lbs., unassisted (Infrequent: 0-2 hours per shift).
  • Ability to lift objects, up to 15 lbs., from floor level to height of 36 inches, unassisted (Infrequent: 0-2 hours per shift).
  • Ability to lower objects, up to 15 lbs., from height of 36 inches to floor level, unassisted (Infrequent: 0-2 hours per shift).
  • Ability to push/pull objects, up to 15 lbs., unassisted (Infrequent: 0-2 hours per shift).
  • Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift).
  • Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand (Frequent: 2-6 hours per shift).
  • Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance (Frequent: 2-6 hours per shift).
  • Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift).
  • Good peripheral vision capabilities (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift).
  • Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction (Continuous: 6-8 hours per shift).
  • Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements (Frequent: 2-6 hours per shift).
