ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responds to communication devices such as phone/vocera/call bells.
- Completes basic entries into the electronic medical record.
- Records patient data in EMR.
- Transcribes written orders.
- Stocks supplies, checks for expiration dates, and orders supplies.
- Cleans equipment and cleans toys.
- Transports blood borne pathogen or other patient specimens.
- Picks up blood from blood bank and delivers to the unit.
- Sprays surgical instruments with enzymatic cleanser and prepares/transports them for processing.
- Packages or moves infectious waste containers for disposal.
- Provides in rooms support for patients on airborne precautions.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates ethical personal actions that adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Performs clerical duties including responding to communication devices and completing basic entries into the electronic medical record.
- Assists with room/patient care and equipment management tasks such as stocking supplies, cleaning equipment, and cleaning toys.
- Manages infectious materials by transporting blood borne pathogens and other patient specimens, picking up blood from the blood bank, and preparing/sorting them for disposal.
- Supports patient care by measuring, recording, and emptying urine collection devices, bedpans/commodes, reinforcing established education material or room orientation with patients/families, and transporting patients off unit for tests/procedures.
- Discontinues Peripheral IV’s, obtains Point of Care specimens and urine, wound, stool, throat, and nasal specimens.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Graduate from a Nurse Aide School
CERTIFICATES, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION
- Nurse Aide Certification
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) continuously maintained
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) or other DHS deemed relevant course equivalent within 6 months of hire and maintained continuously thereafter
