About the role
The Department of State Hospitals – Coalinga is accepting applications for Permanent Full-Time Unit Supervisor (Safety) positions. DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and treats forensically committed patients, primarily sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital with a security perimeter; the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security and patient transportation to outside medical services and court proceedings.
The incumbent supervises level-of-care staff; monitors and maintains the administration of routine psychiatric nursing services of a unit; coordinates the work and staff of a unit and serves as a liaison between unit staff on different shifts; trains and develops shift leads; and instructs level-of-care nursing personnel in nursing, habilitation, and rehabilitation techniques for committed patients.

Responsibilities

Pay
Salary Range A: $6,399.00 – $8,136.00 per month
Salary Range S: $9,238.00 – $10,282.00 per month (also advertised as $9,238 – $10,797 monthly)
New-to-state candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate range when applicable.
All state civil service employees are subject to the mandatory Personal Leave Program (PLP) through June 30, 2027. This position is represented by Bargaining Unit 18 (California Association of Psychiatric Technicians – CAPT). The PLP reduces monthly gross salary by 3% and provides 5 hours of PLP leave credits per qualifying pay period (prorated for less-than-full-time positions).
Schedule
Full-time, 12-month limited-term appointment. On-site work required (no telework).
