Unit Supervisor
About the Role
The Unit Supervisor provides leadership that embodies Everstand’s core values and works to maintain a Trauma Responsive Environment. The Unit Supervisor is versed in Everstand’s Theory of Change and implements Everstand policies and procedures to support a safe and nurturing treatment environment. The role involves leading an interdisciplinary team, coaching Youth Care Professionals, and ensuring direct care services align with Everstand’s philosophy, state, and federal policies.
Responsibilities
- Model and act in accordance with Everstand's core values, demonstrating trauma-informed leadership and practicing Everstand’s leadership mindset: “Choose kindness. Solve problems and learn together. Make it happen.”
- Provide effective supervision to Youth Care Professionals to ensure direct care services are consistently delivered in line with Everstand’s philosophy, state, and federal policies.
- Support and hold Youth Care Professionals accountable through coaching, guidance sessions, and progressive discipline as needed.
- Mentor direct care staff to engage in supportive conversations with youth, fostering a calm, respectful, and patient environment.
- Implement individualized programming for residents, including safety and guidance plans, and ensure completion of all related documentation.
- Learn and implement evidence-based practices, including attending training, following practice guidelines with fidelity, and engaging in fidelity monitoring.
- Utilize and mentor staff in specialized training to prevent and support youth experiencing dysregulated behavior, such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, National Center for Traumatic Stress Network modules, and Integrated Treatment and Prevention of Sexual Abuse and Harassment concepts.
- Establish a safe, secure, and calm milieu by supporting staff in maintaining unit routines, schedules, and systems for cleanliness, supplies, and recreation.
- Collaborate with the care team to promote youth wellness by addressing health, medical, educational, and spiritual needs, creating a trauma-sensitive environment.
- Teach and oversee direct care staff in fostering life skills, such as health, hygiene, and money management.
- Role model and teach staff the importance of setting limits and offering fair consequences to maintain a safe and supportive environment.
- Lead preparation for new intakes, including greeting youth and ensuring regulatory protocols are followed.
- Coordinate resident discharges, complete required documentation, and process discharges through the UC portal.
- Provide campus supervision on a rotating basis, including overnight and/or weekend shifts at least once per week.
- Demonstrate understanding of how the Caminos Program integrates with other agency programs to support youth and care team members.
- Promote effective communication through timely documentation and participation in weekly team meetings.
- Oversee daily documentation of youth activities in accordance with Everstand and ORR policies, including daily activity reports, child-level events, incident reports, phone logs, and allowance logs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of Everstand and Office of Refugee Resettlement policies and procedures for the care of Unaccompanied Children, including legal background and authority.
- Maintain adequate staff-to-resident ratios in compliance with agency, state, and federal regulations, and provide unit coverage as needed.
- Ensure appropriate staffing support while minimizing overtime.
- Provide safe transportation for residents in agency vehicles to scheduled appointments.
- Ensure Youth Care Professionals complete forty hours of professional training annually.
- Obtain and maintain certification as a “user” in Everstand’s electronic health record system and required Federal databases.
- Administer medication in accordance with state regulations, physician/nurse orders, and document in the Medication Administration Record (MAR).
- Provide mandatory on-call coverage.
- Provide direct care coverage as needed to support operational needs.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- 1 year of supervisory or management experience.
- 1 year of child welfare experience working with children and/or adolescents.
- Ability to learn and effectively utilize different technology platforms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows 10 and Office 365 products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Strong time management, planning, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to problem-solve and work independently.
- Ability to maintain an electronic calendar (Outlook).
- Ability to pass TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) certification at orientation and as required thereafter.
- Ability to pass CPR/First Aid certification at orientation and as required thereafter.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to maintain it, including safe operation of a motor vehicle.
- Ability to pass CPS/UII background check prior to employment and as required thereafter.
- Ability to pass a Tuberculosis Screening prior to employment and as required thereafter.
- Ability to pass a work-readiness physical performed by a certified medical professional prior to employment and as required thereafter.
- Ability to pass Federal and State Fingerprinting Background Check prior to employment and as required thereafter.
- Ability to pass a drug screen via urinalysis prior to employment and randomly thereafter.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of unit systems and oversight of their completion.
- Understanding of health and safety standards through weekly on-site inspections.
- Ability to orient staff and residents to the program by demonstrating understanding of various programs at Everstand.
- Ability to receive, transmit, store, and retrieve information through written and verbal communication.
- Conduct job-related trainings on a yearly basis.
- Understanding of daily routines and the need for consistency within the unit.
- Ability to complete accurate bi-weekly timesheets.
- Ability to create accurate staff schedules while minimizing or eliminating overtime.
- Ability to maintain an accurate account of all unit finances.

Work Environment
This role operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Due to the nature of the behavioral health treatment environment, there may be exposure to challenging behaviors from youth, including physical agitation, physical violence, and emotional outbursts.

The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing duties, the employee may occasionally be required to:
- Stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle objects or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Talk or hear, and taste or smell.
- Lift or move up to 25 pounds.
- Perform physical restraints safely, as trained via Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, when necessary.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a current vacancy for Sunday–Thursday, 2pm–10pm. Days and hours of work are dependent on operational needs and confirmed by the program supervisor. The role requires flexible work hours, including daytime and weekend shifts, and is eligible for a flex schedule per Everstand Policy and Procedures. This position is essential during inclement weather events.
Travel, if needed, is primarily local during the business day, though some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
