Role Overview
The Unit Secretary supports patient care by performing clerical, receptionist, and communication duties under the supervision of nursing management. They facilitate safe, culturally aware, and patient-centered care through tasks such as data entry, chart maintenance, supply management, patient transport, and coordinating unit flow.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service, protect patient rights, and maintain confidentiality.
- Aid with patient admissions, transfers, discharges, and unit flow management.
- Answer calls, respond to patient needs, and communicate effectively with healthcare team and families.
- Support interdisciplinary rounds, audits, and unit performance initiatives.
- Transport supplies, medications, and equipment; place orders and manage inventory.
- Ensure safety, infection control, and proper documentation, including electronic medical records.
Qualifications & Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Less than 1 year of clinical experience preferred.
- Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multi-task, work under stress, and operate computer systems.
- Basic medical terminology knowledge and computer proficiency required.
