Summary of Duties
- Observes cardiac monitors and notifies staff of any changes in dysrhythmias.
- Supports the nursing station by answering telephones, call lights, maintaining charts, transcribing orders, and managing supplies.
- Greets physicians, families, and visitors professionally and courteously.
Essential Job Functions
- Surveys cardiac activity continuously and reports abnormalities to licensed nursing staff.
- Identifies and documents cardiac dysrhythmias accurately.
- Runs rhythm strips for changes in heart rhythm, rate, and pattern, and documents in the medical record.
- Obtains a rhythm strip at admission and every four hours.
- Answers telephones professionally, takes complete and accurate messages, and dispatches staff promptly.
- Notifies the charge nurse or unit manager about unlocatable staff.
- Aids the Nurse Manager in documenting assignments in the Assignment Book.
- Communicates with coworkers respectfully and promptly relays call lights and information.
- Assists in arranging patient appointments and preparing outpatient folders.
- Maintains logs of patients sent out for services and prepares admission packets.
- Enters new diet orders and updates the order entry computer system.
- Performs clerical tasks such as copying, typing, and filing.
- Manages supplies at the nursing station and maintains an orderly station.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required. One year of experience in a clerical position, preferably in a hospital setting, is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly. Must have gross and fine motor skills to operate equipment and use prosthetics if necessary.
