About the Role
Performs secretarial and direct patient care duties for a designated unit. Maintains the medical record and provides direct patient care for all types of patients.
Responsibilities
- Accurately documents vital signs, weights, I&O, restraints, specimen collection, and all other treatments (20%).
- Transcribes orders in accordance with policies and procedures, subject to the approval of a licensed nurse. Asks for clarification when necessary (30%).
- Performs clerical duties related to admission, transfer, discharge, maintenance of patient records, interdepartmental communications, and unit reception (30%).
- Demonstrates effective communication (verbal and written) with patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members regarding patient care (20%).
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
- Minimum: High school diploma or GED; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1 year of patient care and/or administrative experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
- Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate.
- Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous unit secretary experience or graduate of an approved unit secretary program.
- Experience as a PCA or EMT.
