Unit Secretary - Emergency (PT Days)
Overview
Barnes-Jewish Hospital is the largest hospital in Missouri and is ranked as one of the nation's top hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. It is located at Washington University Medical Center and is staffed by full-time academic faculty and community physicians from the School of Medicine, along with a house staff of residents, interns, fellows, and other medical professionals. The hospital is recognized for its excellence in nursing care and was the first adult hospital in Missouri to be certified as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Emergency Department at Barnes-Jewish Hospital specializes in rapid assessment and treatment of patients, particularly during the initial phase of acute illness and trauma. It is a Level I Trauma facility and a leader in disaster preparedness for the St. Louis region.
Role Purpose
The Unit Secretary supports the clinical operations by providing customer service and clerical support. They transcribe physician orders, notify nurses of STAT orders, and communicate new orders to the healthcare team.
Responsibilities
- Supports the clinical operations by providing customer service and clerical support.
- Transcribes physician orders with close attention to detail.
- Notifies appropriate nurse when STAT orders are written or when coordinating tests and procedures.
- Communicates new orders to the healthcare team as appropriate.
Requirements

- No prior experience required.
- No supervisor experience required.
